MATCH REPORT | LEIGH LEOPARDS

Interim Head Coach Luke Robinson would lead the Giants into this fixture, however the squad was extremely depleted with Seb Ikahihifo and Thomas Deakin missing out with return to play protocols.

The Giants started off with intent, and saw their pressure rewarded early on as Tui Lolohea and Sam Halsall combined to send Elliot Wallis over in the corner.

Leigh would hit back, however an error saw former Darnell McIntosh take the ball on the short side of the scrum and cross in the corner, despite the best efforts of Elliot Wallis to deny him.

The Leopards were then awarded a penalty around 40m out, with Matt Moylan electing to take the two and push the home side into the lead for the first time this afternoon, 6-4.

Luke Robinson's men would battle hard throughout a testing half, losing Joe Greenwood and Sam Hewitt to injuries, which meant Andre Savelio and Fenton Rogers had to extend their stints.

After the break, an attempted long pass by Lachlan Lam saw Jake Bibby pick up the loose ball and feed Aidan McGowan, who was stopped just short, however we would score again.

Jake Connor stepped his way through the Leopards' rearguard to push us into the lead, 6-8.

The game reached a boiling point around the 57th minute, with Chris Hill and Jack Hughes pushing and shoving, this also sae yellow cards brandished for both.

Leigh were awarded a penalty in the aftermath of the brawl, which Matt Moylan converted to level the scores at 8-8.

With Leigh starting to turn up the pressure on the Giants, we were awarded a penalty around 40m out, Jake Connor added his first goal of the afternoon which saw us lead again at 8-10.

However, it wouldn't last as with Chris Hill and Andre Savelio off the field, Savelio seeing red earlier, the sheer numbers of the Leigh team saw them cross through Kai O'Donnell, who took a smart offload from Lachlan Lam to score.

Another score came soon after through Zak Hardaker, the man difference costing the Giants dearly towards the end of the game, with numerous players running out of gas due to the depleted bench.

Sam Halsall broke through as the Giants threw caution to the wind, and kicked forward for Elliot Wallis, who was awarded a penalty try, it would be too late though as one last effort saw Jake Connor's pass sail into touch, and Leigh took the points.

Final Score - Leigh Leopards 20-16 Huddersfield Giants
